We have been going "out straight" since we arrived on the continent. We decided to reward ourselves with a "day off." This meant we only did one dive in the morning. We relaunched Hal, and Kay dove to deploy him to another location; I was the back-up diver. After the dive, Kay stayed at the dive hole to monitor Hal's probes, Ian walked over to Lake Hoare (about a 2 - 2.5 hour walk - one way) to inspect the dive holes there, and I finished some homework for a class I'm taking at UNH. Perhaps the highlight of the day - "SHOWER"! It's not like home, but gosh did it feel good! There's something just not quite right, however, about showering, finally feeling clean, and putting dirty clothes back on! Oh well! It still feels refreshing!

I awoke this morning to a beautiful view outside my tent!
Notice the big rock I'm using to anchor my tent (there are others all around the tent)! It can get a bit breezy here!

One of our daily tasks is to rotate the solar panels. All of our electricity is run by solar power. There is a generator for emergencies or a stretch of cloudy weather, but we try not to turn it on. Basically, we chase the sun around in a big circle everyday!

I brought some UV beads with me to Antarctica. This photo was taken at about mid-day. If I took the same photo in NH at about mid-day, the beads would not be quite this dark. The darker the beads, the more UV radiation is contacting the beads. The ozone hole over Antarctica is quite large at the moment. I'm working on my Antarctic suntan!

The shower! Makes you want to jump right in doesn't it? The room has a heater - we also use this room as a dive locker to dry out our suits after each dive - so it's quite nice in here.
I guess I'm looking forward to not having to stand in a bucket to take a shower... of course showering more than once a week would be nice as well! :)

I spent some time at the dive hole today refilling all the air tanks so we will be ready to go tomorrow. The lake looks so "tame" from this angle! It was a gorgeous day to be out on the lake!
